These crops must not follow on from each other. They are highly susceptible to overwintering pests, and susceptible to soil-borne disease.


**   The Alliums

  • Chives
  • Garlic
  • Leeks
  • Onions
  • Shallots

These crops must not follow on from each other. They are susceptible to overwintering pests, and soil-borne disease.

**   Peas and Beans

  • French Beans
  • Runner Beans
  • Broad Beans
  • Peas

  • Alfalfa (used as a green manure)
  • Field Beans (ditto)
  • Clovers (ditto)
  • Fenugreek (ditto)
  • Lupins (ditto)
  • Tares (ditto)
  • Trefoil (ditto)

*   Beet group

  • Beetroot
  • Leaf Beet
  • Spinach
  • Perpetual Spinach

These crops will fit anywhere in a rotation plan, as they are not susceptible to soil borne pests or diseases.

*   Lettuces and Daisies

  • Lettuce
  • Salsify and Scorzonera

These crops will fit anywhere in a rotation plan, as they are not susceptible to soil borne pests or diseases.

*   Squash group

  • Cucumber
  • Marrow and Courgette
  • Pumpkin and Squash

These crops will fit anywhere in a rotation plan.

*   The others!

  • Sweetcorn

  • Buckwheat (used as a green manure)
  • Phacelia (ditto)
  • Grazing Rye (ditto)
  • Annual Ryegrass (ditto)

These will fit in anywhere in a rotation plan.

Otherwise, most of the "other" crops I can think of are like asparagus, in reasonably permanent beds, so rotation doesn't apply.
