»  Choosing your seeds, and a glossary
  • For a wonderful (and very useful) labour of love - see Phil Cooper's Catalogue of UK Seed and Plant Suppliers by Mail Order; a listing of UK suppliers of mail-order seeds and plants, categorised, and including loads of small specialist suppliers.
    • Are you as lazy as I am about labelling your seeds?   A very neat, long-lasting, simple and cheap idea, using reclaimed aluminium sheets is available from Brian Pitts.   You can be as creative and decorative as you wish!
  • This is my own list of UK suppliers (last updated January, 2005) who include organic vegetable seeds in their catalogues.   There are likely to be omissions and mistakes - please let me know!
  • Suppliers in bold type in the first half of the list also supply heritage varieties - there's a glossary here
    • Anioleka - specialise in heirloom vegetable and herb seeds.
    • Association Kokopelli (Terre de Semences, until EU legislation interfered).
    • Beans and Herbs - offer a collection of organic and/or heirloom bean seeds, as well as herbs.
    • Chase Organics - for the HDRA; the catalogue I use most, personally.
    • Thomas Etty Esq - mainly heritage varieties, some organically sourced.
    • Future Foods - have sadly ceased trading.
    • Heritage Seed Library - run by the HDRA, preserving and making available heirloom varieties and varieties at risk of disappearing.
    • Ready-to-Grow offer chilli (including heirloom varieties), banana and palm seeds.
    • The Organic Catalogue (aka Chase Organics - still for the HDRA, and the catalogue I use most).
    • VidaVerde Seed Collection.
    • D T Brown and Co.
    • Chiltern Seeds.
    • Samuel Dobie and Son.
    • Mr Fothergill's Seeds.
    • E W King and Co
    • S E Marshall
    • S M McArd.
    • W Robinson and Sons - home of the Mammoth Onion, and lots more.
