Monday, 31st May, 2004 - a fresh start!
First of all - my deepest thanks for all the messages of support - e-mails and on the guest-book - from so many friends unseen. Very, very much appreciated!
We've been extraordinarily lucky - finding a new plot on another site.
Is it really so daft to choose a new home because of an allotment plot? Not when it's such a perfect fit! A self-managed site, with greenhouses, polytunnels, and sheds still standing; manure deliveries; barbecue area; foxes; water supply; old fruit trees; and there are some stunningly beautiful and established plots. It gets better - beekeeping is allowed (and there's a beekeeper-friend who already has her hives on a plot!). Vandalism? - very rare, when sheds get broken into! And best of all, very friendly and welcoming.
My new home is just 5 minutes walk from the new plot. My front window practically overlooks the site!
Yup - I'm all excited about starting again. A wonderful tonic to rekindle my interest - hope it does the same for the kids, as they are just a tad discouraged by walking away from our Seacroft Hall plot.
Once I've moved house - this week - we'll get into the wonderfully satisfying task of clearing fresh ground, and bringing it under cultivation. It's a bit late to get anything started for this year, so we'll just take it quite easy - concentrate on getting things right for next season. And in the summer holiday, I'll pick up the beekeeping I left on hold a couple of years ago. I might even be able to pick up a greenhouse and a garden shed - such luxury!
Once again - thank you to every one who has so generous with their support!
