I decided to give up on this diary temporarily, as I had no interest in chronicling the exploits of our local vandals, so this was indeed the last entry for three months.
I remain astonished at how many generous messages of support we received - on the guest-book and by e-mail, so a heartfelt "Thank you," to so many "friends unseen".

And no, we didn't give up the allotment, alhough the vandalism carried on for several weeks afterwards. So - no maincrop potatoes, peas, sweetcorn, romanesco, cauliflower, French beans, onions, pickling onions, squashes and pumpkins, strawberries; herb bed severely depleted; and there's probably more we lost.
This year was obviously not meant to be. I'd filled the freezer with black- and red-currants; broad beans; and some spinach. Opened it the next week - and it was a festering soup. The damn thing had given up the ghost --- so not only did we lose so much of this year's crop, but we lost all the surplus from last year too!
